Woof Tang K9's PPD Program

Our 1-Year Personal Protection Dog Program is designed for owners who want to develop their dog into a confident, obedient, and reliable personal protection dog while learning how to properly handle their dog throughout the process.

The program includes two private, one-hour training sessions per week for one full year. We take you and your dog through the process from A–Z, covering obedience, protection work, real-world application, and handler education.

What We Cover

Obedience & Control
Building the strong obedience foundation necessary for protection work, including leash handling, positions, recalls, stays, engagement, neutrality, control around distractions, and advanced obedience.

Protection & Bitework
Progressive protection training focused on confidence, engagement, targeting, gripping, outs, control, and appropriate responses within trained contexts.

Handler Education
Owners learn how to properly handle their dog, give clear commands, read their dog's behavior, maintain control, and safely work as a team.

Real-World & Contextual Training
As the team progresses, training can move beyond the training field and into different environments and scenarios. This allows the dog and handler to learn how their training applies within different contexts.

Evaluation required prior to commitment: $100 evaluation fee

What is a PPD?

A Personal Protection Dog (PPD) is a well-balanced, social dog with a stable temperament that can confidently be part of everyday life while also providing an added level of security. A properly trained PPD is friendly and manageable in appropriate social settings, has a strong natural alert to potential threats, and is trained to engage or bite only within specific trained contexts or when given the appropriate command.

The goal is not an aggressive dog—it is a clear-headed, confident, controlled dog that can distinguish between normal everyday situations and situations requiring a protective response.

You can purchase your own dog or puppy and have us evaluate them for PPD potential before beginning lessons. Because genetics and temperament matter, purchasing a dog does not automatically guarantee they will qualify for protection work.

For clients who want a more established option, you may also choose to purchase a PPD that has already been selected and developed specifically for protection work, then continue lessons with your dog to build your handling skills and strengthen your partnership.

Whether you bring your own dog or purchase a PPD, the goal is the same: a social, stable, confident companion with the ability to protect when appropriate and remain under control.

Progress & 6-Month Re-Evaluation

Our trainers continuously evaluate each dog’s progress. If our professional team determines that a dog is not progressing appropriately for PPD work, a re-evaluation may be conducted at the 6-month mark.

There are no refunds prior to 6 months, and re-evaluations are based on our trainers’ professional assessment, not owner request. If we determine the dog is not suitable to continue, paid-in-full clients may receive up to a 50% refund for the unused portion of the program. Monthly payments and all training or services already completed are non-refundable. Remaining program value may also be transferred to another approved training program.

Program Changes

We understand that not every dog's training journey develops exactly as expected. If the PPD program is no longer the appropriate path, the remaining monetary value of the program may be applied toward another appropriate Woof Tang K9 training program or service, subject to our approval.

Training and services that have already been completed are considered earned and are non-refundable.

PPD Maintenance & Scenario Training

After the program is completed, continued training is important to keep your PPD sharp, confident, and reliable. Maintenance sessions are $150 and focus on real-world, scenario-based training in a variety of locations and environments. This helps your dog maintain their skills while practicing the appropriate responses in different contexts while remaining stable, social, and under control.
